In Queensland, any load exceeding 2.5 metres in width is classified as a wide load under NHVR guidelines. Wide loads require oversize permits, warning signs, flags and — depending on the width — one or more pilot or escort vehicles.

As the width increases, so do the requirements. Loads over certain thresholds need additional pilot vehicles, restricted travel times and specific route planning to avoid narrow bridges, tight corners and overhead obstacles.
